KATHMANDU: A growing number of employees in Nepal’s commercial banks are dissatisfied with their salaries and benefits, according to a recent survey by the Nepal Bankers’ Association, the umbrella body for commercial banks.

The survey found that the proportion of fully satisfied employees dropped from 23.39% in 2022 to 18% in 2024, a decline of about 5.5 percentage points. Meanwhile, dissatisfaction with salaries increased, with 24.10% of employees reporting discontent in 2024, up from 21.07% in 2022.

The number of employees who are only partially satisfied also grew, rising from 55.54% to 57.90% over the same period.

The findings highlight rising concerns over compensation in Nepal’s banking sector as inflation and cost-of-living pressures mount. The Nepal Bankers’ Association has not yet commented on whether banks plan to address the concerns raised in the survey.
