KATHMANDU: Nepal witnessed an impressive growth in exports in the fiscal year 2024/25, with outbound trade soaring by 81.80 percent compared to the previous year, according to the latest data from the Department of Customs.
The country exported goods worth Rs 277.03 billion during the year, a significant rise from Rs 152.38 billion recorded in FY 2023/24.
Total foreign trade—which includes both imports and exports—also saw a notable expansion, reaching Rs 2.81 trillion. This marks a 19.24 percent increase from the previous fiscal year’s total of Rs 1.74 trillion.
Despite the surge in exports, imports continued to dominate Nepal’s trade profile.

Consequently, the trade deficit further widened, exceeding Rs 1.5 trillion.
As of the end of Asar (mid-July 2024), the deficit stood at Rs 1.52 trillion—approximately 6 percent higher than the previous year’s deficit of Rs 1.44 trillion.
