KATHMANDU: On the last trading day of the week, Thursday, the stock market declined by 10.66 points. With this drop, the NEPSE index fell to 2,615 points from 2,625 points in the previous session.
The market remained in negative territory throughout the day. However, total turnover increased. While trading volume stood at NPR 4.05 billion the previous day, it rose to NPR 4.57 billion today. Share prices of 63 companies increased, 194 declined, and 2 remained unchanged.
The finance sector recorded the highest loss, falling by 1.55 percent. The hotel and tourism sector remained stable. Non-life insurance rose by 0.22 percent and the trading sector by 0.48 percent. Meanwhile, banking fell by 0.22 percent, development banks by 0.12 percent, hydropower by 0.55 percent, investment by 0.41 percent, life insurance by 0.67 percent, manufacturing and processing by 0.17 percent, microfinance by 0.49 percent, and the “others” group by 1.19 percent.
Shares of two companies surged by 10 percent—Swastik Laghubitta and SY Panel. Similarly, Sindhu Development Bank rose by 9.56 percent, CYC Laghubitta by 4.87 percent, and Saptakoshi Development Bank by 4.44 percent.
Barahi Hydropower saw the biggest decline, dropping by 4.76 percent. Guheshwori Merchant Finance fell by 3.13 percent and Modi Energy by 3.02 percent. The most traded companies of the day were Barahi Hydropower, Radhi Bidyut, Butwal Power, Ngadi Group, and Saptakoshi Development Bank.
