KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) witnessed a significant drop of 74.73 points today, Wednesday, the fourth trading day of the week. Although NEPSE, which had fallen by large numbers on Sunday and Monday, saw an increase on Tuesday, it fell by double digits again on Wednesday.
NEPSE had declined by 71.05 points on Sunday and 47.71 points on Monday. On Tuesday, however, NEPSE had increased by 19.70 points. Today, Wednesday, NEPSE decreased by 74.73 points to settle at the 2,776.36 level. This represents a 2.62% decline compared to the previous trading day.
The Sensitive Index also fell by 11.21 points today, closing at 473.63. In percentage terms, this is a 2.31% decrease compared to the previous day. Similarly, the Float Index dropped by 2.62%, while the Sensitive Float Index also declined by 4.02%.
In the share market on Wednesday, 30,292,452 units of shares from 347 companies were traded through 123,730 transactions. Accordingly, a turnover of Rs 12.109 billion occurred on Wednesday.
On Sunday, a turnover of Rs 15.033 billion was recorded, while on Monday, the turnover was Rs 12.966 billion. Similarly, on Tuesday, the turnover stood at Rs 11.112 billion.
Share prices of only 13 companies increased in NEPSE today, while the share prices of 255 companies declined. Among the 13 groups traded on Wednesday, sub-indices for all groups were ‘in the red.’ On Sunday and Monday as well, all subgroup indices had turned red. On Tuesday, only the Mutual Fund and Others sub-indices had decreased, while the remaining 11 groups had increased.
Accordingly, on Wednesday, the index of the Commercial Bank group fell by 2.31%, the Development Bank by 3.18%, Finance by 3.03%, Hotels and Tourism by 2.12%, Hydropower by 2.81%, and the Investment group sub-index by 2.66%.
Similarly, life insurance fell by 2.02%, manufacturing and processing by 0.39%, microfinance by 1.99%, mutual funds by 0.97%, non-life insurance by 2.22%, others by 5.26%, and the trading group index by 3.96%.
A positive circuit was hit in the share prices of Reliance Spinning Mills and Super Khudi Hydropower on Wednesday. This means investors of Reliance and Super Khudi earned 10%.
Conversely, investors of Nepal Re-Insurance Company suffered a loss of 9.84%.
Nepal Re-Insurance Company Limited also led in terms of transaction amount. Today, a turnover of Rs 713.1 million was recorded for Nepal Re-Insurance.
Furthermore, Kumari Bank remained at the forefront in terms of the number of shares traded today. 1,882,209 units of Kumari’s shares were bought and sold. Yesterday (Tuesday), 1,560,061 units of Kumari’s shares were traded. The final transaction price of Kumari was maintained at Rs 221 per unit.
