The exchange service will be offered at NRB’s Currency Management Department, Thapathali in Kathmandu, its seven provincial offices (Biratnagar, Janakpur, Birgunj, Pokhara, Siddharthanagar, Nepalgunj, and Dhangadhi), as well as branches of all commercial banks and financial institutions.
The new notes will be in denominations of Rs 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 to meet high public demand.
The Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) introduced the Clean Note Policy in fiscal year 2010/11, confirmed to be under implementation by November 17, 2010, according to its Annual Report.
The policy focuses on withdrawing soiled notes, using note-sorting machines, and promoting clean currency circulation.
The bank urges the public to keep their notes clean, as printing new banknotes abroad is a significant expense for the state treasury.
