KATHMANDU: The five-day waste management crisis in Kathmandu due to a blockade at Bancharedanda landfill has been resolved.

Following assurances from Urban Development Minister Kulman Ghising, local residents lifted the obstruction, allowing garbage trucks to resume operations.

Minister Ghising visited the site with officials from Kathmandu, Nuwakot, and Dhading, promising to implement past agreements and improve both short- and long-term waste management.

Committees will be formed to monitor proper disposal and manage leachate, and lighting will be installed for nighttime operations.

Local leaders emphasized the need for clear policies separating communities from landfill sites.

With the blockade cleared, waste disposal has restarted, easing the city’s garbage crisis.
