KATHMANDU: The Urban Development Ministry is to prepare the details of losses of physical structures, vehicles as well as other things caused due to arson and vandalism occurred during the recent Gen-Z protests within three days.
A meeting of the Ministry held under coordination of Ministry Secretary Gopal Prasad Sigdel at the Ministry today decided to collect the details of the damages caused by vandalism and arson occurred in course of Gen-Z protest on September 9.
Spokesperson of the Ministry, Narayan Prasad Mainali, shared that 50 vehicles of the Ministry turned into ashes, some were vandalized and different goods including computers were stolen, adding collecting the details of the losses was underway.
“Although most of the buildings in Singh Durbar have been destroyed by fire, the Ministry of Urban Development has been spared, but various goods assets here have been looted. Vehicles have been completely destroyed by fire.
We have come to the office on foot,” he said, “The ministry will compile a damage report within three days. We are also preparing on how to move forward by transforming mourning into strength in the coming days.”
According to Secretary Sigdel, about 60 percent of the Urban Development and Building Construction Department under the ministry has been burnt due to the fire. He stated that there is uncertainty about where to work from now onwards.
“We will gather information on how much damage has occurred to the buildings constructed by the ministry, including the minister’s official quarters. Today, we have discussed on how to move forward and also carried out work like cleaning,” he said.
