KATHMANDU: Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba has said that Nepal has been raising the issue of climate justice strongly in the international arena.
Speaking at a dialogue program titled “Nepal’s Foreign Policy, Climate Change and Concerns of Youth” organized by Nepal Tarun Dal in Pokhara on Wednesday, Minister Rana stressed that Nepal should receive compensation from international climate-related funds for the loss and damage it has suffered.
She also mentioned that she recently raised Nepal’s concerns at the International Court of Justice, stating that Nepal has been disproportionately suffering the negative effects of carbon emissions by developed nations.
Highlighting that climate change poses a major challenge, Rana emphasized the crucial role of the younger generation in mitigating climate risks.
She noted that public complaints regarding the impacts of climate change have been increasing in recent times.
To protect future generations from the consequences of climate change, she advocated for tree planting, reducing plastic use, promoting electric vehicles, and expanding the use of renewable energy.
Minister Rana also pointed out Nepal’s geopolitical sensitivity and strategic geographical importance.
