KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress General Secretary Bishwa Prakash Sharma has sent a letter to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli from the Everest Base Camp, raising concerns over climate change, mountain livelihoods, tourism, and governmental responsibilities.
According to Sharma’s chief aide Dinesh Thapa Magar, the letter was dispatched on Monday, while Sharma was at the foot of the world’s highest peak, Mount Everest.
In his letter, Sharma emphasized that climate change has become an urgent global crisis, and urged Nepal to play a more vocal and proactive role on the international stage.
He stated that both appeals and pressure are necessary to draw global attention to the impact of climate change on the Himalayan region, which is facing severe threats due to melting glaciers and changing weather patterns.
Sharma also highlighted the need to safeguard mountain communities, promote sustainable tourism, and enhance Nepal’s climate diplomacy.
