SUNSARI: The water level in the Saptakoshi River has surged sharply following continuous rainfall over recent days.
According to Nirmal Kumar Thapa, Superintendent at the Armed Police Force Nepal No. 4 Headquarters, the water discharge at the Koshi Barrage reached 243,000 cusecs per second as of 9:00 PM on Saturday. In response, authorities have opened 28 of the 56 gates at the barrage.
The control room has activated the red warning light, as any water flow exceeding 150,000 cusecs per second is deemed dangerous.
Superintendent Thapa stated that there has been no reported damage to the eastern embankment so far.
