KANCHANPUR: Continuous rain since Sunday night has led to widespread flooding in Kanchanpur district, submerging at least 45 houses.
According to police, floods in the rivers of Bhimdatta Municipality and Dodhara Chandani Municipality have entered local settlements, affecting multiple communities.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sagar Bohara, spokesperson for the District Police Office, Kanchanpur, reported that the flood of the Jogbudha River submerged 25 houses in the Rampure and Jarga settlements in ward 8 of Dodhara Chandani Municipality.
An additional 15 houses were submerged in Patarakhalla village in Ward 3 of Dodhara Chandani Municipalit, while five houses were also affected in the Bhujela settlement in ward 11 of Bhimdatta Municipality.
DSP Bohara confirmed that 70 people displaced from the Jogbudha River flood have been moved to safety and are currently taking shelter in a nearby school. Similarly, around 55 people from Patarakhalla have been relocated to the nearby Jamuna Basic School along with their belongings and livestock.
The continuous rainfall has caused the water level of the Mahakali River to rise significantly, reaching 140,250 cusecs.
As a standard protocol, the Indian side has stopped all vehicular movement on the Sharada Barrage, as the water flow has exceeded the 100,000 cusecs limit.
