KATHMANDU: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a corruption case at the Special Court against former Dharan tax officer Tilak Ale and Santosh Kumar Basnet, Managing Director of Swaminarayan Nirman Seva Pvt. Ltd.

The CIAA alleges that the company failed to deposit Rs 12.37 million in VAT for a 2020 sand and gravel contract with Sundarharaicha Municipality and submitted falsified documents to evade payment.

Ale and Basnet are accused of colluding to mislead the municipality.

The anti-corruption body has demanded a fine equivalent to the evaded VAT.
