KATHMANDU: The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) has formed a six-member committee led by SSP Hobindra Bogati to investigate a gang involved in sending unrelated Nepalis to a UN conference in Seville, Spain.
Reports say intermediaries charged money to arrange visit visas for those not linked to the event, held June 30–July 2.
Some attendees were registered under NGOs to get visas from the Spanish embassy in Delhi.
Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak called a meeting with top officials, including CIB Chief AIG Chandrakuber Khapung and Immigration Director General Govinda Rijal, concluding a detailed probe was needed to verify travelers and expose the gang.
A list of 55 suspicious individuals was sent to airlines to block travel, but some unrelated persons still flew, including some on the Prime Minister’s plane.
At least seven reportedly stayed in Spain without attending.
The committee will uncover the facts and recommend legal action if criminality is found, aiming to ensure transparency and prevent misuse of official channels in future delegations.
