KATHMANDU: Businessman and royalist activist Durga Prasai has been released from jail after a High Court order.

Shortly after his release, Prasai took to Facebook on Monday to thank Nepalis at home and abroad for their support, assistance, and encouragement.

“Even when the District Court ordered my imprisonment, I respected the verdict and willingly went to jail,” he wrote. “Today, as I am being released by the order of the High Court, I return home with future plans for nation-building.”

Expressing gratitude towards the judiciary, Prasai stated, “I extend my heartfelt thanks to all the respected judges and the entire court family for instilling the belief that justice is not dead.”

He also mentioned that he accepted his time in prison with ease, considering the jail as another home. “The whole of Nepal is my home; the prison did not feel any different,” Prasai remarked.

Prasai expressed his appreciation towards the prison administration, Nepal Police, and fellow inmates for their cooperation during his incarceration.

Reaffirming his commitment to the nation, he added, “I was, am, and will always be for the country. Methods and styles may change, but my character will not.”

Prasai was sent to Dillibazar Jail on June 13 as per Kathmandu District Court order. However, the High Court today ordered his release upon payment of Rs 2.8 million bail in multiple pending cases.

Following the court’s directive, he was released from jail on Monday.
