KATHMANDU: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a corruption case at the Special Court against Ram Babu Mahato Koiri, former engineer (deputy director) at the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC), accusing him of illegally amassing property worth over Rs 45.79 million.

According to the CIAA, Koiri served at KMC from Baisakh 19, 2046 BS (May 1, 1989) to Falgun 30, 2078 BS (March 14, 2022). During this period, he allegedly acquired assets worth Rs 79.67 million. However, he was only able to justify legal sources for Rs 33.79 million, leaving over Rs 45.79 million unaccounted for.

The case was filed after a complaint accused Koiri of misusing his public position to accumulate wealth unlawfully. CIAA spokesperson Rajendra Kumar Paudel stated that a detailed investigation confirmed Koiri had violated the norms of public office and engaged in corruption.

Originally from Ward 5 of Kshireshwarnath Municipality in Dhanusha (formerly Nakatajhij Ward 6), Koiri currently resides in Chandol, Kathmandu Metropolitan City Ward 4.

The CIAA has demanded legal action with recovery of the embezzled amount. The case underscores ongoing efforts to curb corruption and enforce transparency in Nepal’s public service sector.
