KATHMANDU: The administration of Nakkhu Prison has warned inmates who escaped to surrender immediately.
On Friday, the prison issued a notice urging fugitives to appear in legal proceedings without delay.
The administration stated that failure to comply will result in actions under the Prison Act and other prevailing laws.
“Continued evasion will not only lead to strict enforcement of the penalties prescribed by law but may also seriously affect future legal rights, benefits, and social reintegration processes,” the prison authorities warned.
All inmates of Nakkhu Prison have reportedly escaped. So far, only one has come forward, according to the administration.
Under the Prison Act, escaping or attempting to escape can result in up to five years in jail, a fine of Rs 50,000, or both.
Similarly, tampering with prison walls, doors, or windows, destroying prison property, or creating any secret escape route can lead to up to 10 years of imprisonment, a fine of Rs 100,000, or both.
Rioting inside the prison carries the same penalties.
