ITAHARI: Rajkumar Timilsina, sentenced to six months in jail by the Supreme Court for supplying a fabricated audio recording in the controversial ‘Dark File’ report by Sidha Kura Online, was arrested on Sunday in Itahari.
Timilsina was apprehended inside the Area Police Office in Itahari, where he had come for discussions related to a separate legal matter involving his wife.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Laxmi Bhandari said Timilsina initially used a false name and address when entering the police office, prompting further investigation.
Upon questioning, Timilsina failed to provide consistent identification. Police verified his PAN card and confirmed his real identity as a fugitive defendant in the ‘Dark File’ fake audio case.
Timilsina had been evading arrest since October 2024, following his Supreme Court conviction for contempt of court.
The fabricated audio aimed to damage the reputation of journalists, media entrepreneurs, legal professionals, and justices. It was broadcast by Sidhakura.com as part of the ‘Dark File’ report.
A nine-member Supreme Court bench ruled the audio fake and defamatory, stating its production and broadcast constituted contempt of court.
Alongside Timilsina, a journalist involved in the case has also received a prison sentence.
