KATHMANDU: A rape case has been registered at the Kathmandu District Court against Rajesh Jha (Ahiraj), former Chief of Madhes Province.

He is accused of repeatedly raping a young woman who worked as his domestic help. The incident reportedly occurred when she was alone at his residence.

The complaint, initially filed on February 15, 2025, alleges that Jha sexually assaulted the victim from the time she was 17, which is considered a minor under Nepali law. Even consensual acts with a minor are classified as rape.

Jha was arrested from Kathmandu on July 20, 2025. The Office of the District Government Attorney has filed charges under Section 219(2) of the Criminal Code, seeking a prison sentence of 7 to 10 years.

An additional fine of Rs 300,000 has been demanded under Section 219(3)(C).

Previously, the victim had sought help from the National Women Commission and later filed a formal complaint with the Kathmandu District Police on January 23, 2025.

Authorities launched an investigation through the Women and Children Service Center.

Jha was appointed as Madhes Province Chief on February 19, 2021.

He had fled to India after a previous warrant was issued against him.
