KATHMANDU: Police have arrested three more suspects accused of taking part in arson, vandalism, and looting during the Gen Z movement demonstrations on September 8 and 9.
According to the Kathmandu District Police Range, the individuals were apprehended for their alleged involvement in attacks against police personnel and destruction of public property during the protests that turned violent.
Among those arrested are 43-year-old Pralad Dahal of Makwanpurgadhi Rural Municipality–3, currently residing in Shankharapur–7; 47-year-old Sanukancha Waiba of Shankharapur–3; and 29-year-old Sajan Shrestha of Damak–2, Jhapa, currently living in Balaju, Kathmandu.
Police said Dahal and Waiba were involved in setting fire to the Sankhu Police Post and assaulting police officers during the protest on September 9, while Shrestha has been accused of looting police equipment, including handcuffs and keys, during the same incident.
All three were taken into custody on Saturday and sent to the Bouddha Police Circle for further investigation.
Authorities said they are continuing to identify and arrest others involved in violent and criminal activities carried out under the guise of the Gen Z movement.
