KATHMANDU: CPN-UML central committee member Ain Mahar has been arrested following a complaint related to cybercrime.
The complaint, initially received via postal service, reached the Cyber Bureau, and Mahar was taken into custody by the police on Wednesday.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ajay KC of the Cyber Bureau confirmed Mahar’s arrest, stating, “He has now been taken to Kathmandu District Court for an extension of the investigation.”
On Wednesday, the Kathmandu District Court had issued an arrest warrant against Mahar following the complaint.
He is a former chairman of ANNFSU and was the UML candidate from Bajhang in the 2022 elections, where he was defeated by Bhanubhakta Joshi of the CPN (Unified Socialist).
Mahar has previously been involved in several controversies.
