KATHMANDU: CPN (UML) central committee member Pasang Sherpa has been arrested.

He was taken into custody by police from Dhumbarahi on Tuesday evening after being sentenced by the court in a polygamy case.

SSP Ramesh Thapa of the Kathmandu District Police confirmed Pasang’s arrest.

Pasang, who is also the president of the Indigenous Federation, the ethnic wing of the UML, was found guilty by the Patan High Court last year in the polygamy case.

His wife, Karishma Kharel, had filed the polygamy case at the Kathmandu District Court.

The district court had sentenced him to one year in prison and fined him Rs 5,000.

Pasang had appealed to the High Court, which upheld the district court’s verdict. However, he had remained free under political protection until now.
