KATHMANDU: A complaint has been filed with the Judicial Council demanding disciplinary action against the judges who acquitted Mohammad Aftab Alam, the accused in the Rautahat bombing case.

The complaint was submitted by Shrinarayan Singh Rajput, father of Trilok Pratap Singh (Pintu), who was killed in the 2008 bomb explosion.

He raised serious concerns about the performance and conduct of Janakpur High Court’s Birgunj bench judges, Dr. Khusi Prasad Tharu and Arjun Maharjan, and called on the Judicial Council to take strict action against them.

Since the death of his son, Shrinarayan Singh has been relentlessly seeking justice for 17 years. He expressed deep disappointment over the High Court’s decision to acquit Alam and others, alleging that the evidence was not properly evaluated.

On the eve of Nepal’s first Constituent Assembly elections in 2008, Mohammad Aftab Alam, then a candidate from Rautahat, was reportedly manufacturing bombs at his home to intimidate voters and capture polling booths.

However, one of the bombs exploded prematurely. To conceal the incident, it is alleged that he placed many of the wounded victims alive inside a brick kiln furnace.

Rautahat District Court had sentenced Alam to life imprisonment for his involvement in the crime, but he was later released following an order from the Birgunj Bench of the Janakpur High Court.
