LISBON: A Nepali youth who had gone to Portugal for foreign employment has gone missing.

The missing individual has been identified as 34-year-old Jitendra Pandey, a resident of Pipalpani, Bhanu Municipality-9, Tanahun, who had been living in Portugal for the past two years.

According to his friend Bidur Tamang, Pandey went missing from the Sintra area near Lisbon since last Monday.

Tamang said that Pandey had visited his home last Sunday night, mentioning he had to meet a friend who had called him.

He left afterward and has been out of contact since then. Pandey, who worked at a packing company in Sintra, had also told one of his colleagues to bring food for him the next day.

When he didn’t show up for work on Monday, his friends began searching for him.

“After he went missing, we contacted his family in Nepal. They said Pandey had called them in the morning, saying he would not be in touch for a few days. Since then, no one has been able to reach him,” Tamang said.

He added that Pandey’s employer informed the local police about the disappearance on Tuesday.

All of Pandey’s belongings—including his residency card, bank cards, and passport—were found in his room.

In Nepal, he has elderly parents and sisters who are deeply worried about his disappearance.

Nepal’s Ambassador to Portugal, Prakash Mani Paudel, said that the embassy immediately informed the local police administration after receiving the report of Pandey’s disappearance.

The embassy, he added, is making every possible effort to assist in the search. Pandey had reached Portugal two years ago via Croatia and was working at a packing company in Sintra.
