KATHMANDU: Minister for Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation, Dipak Khadka, held a courtesy meeting with United States Ambassador to Nepal, Dean R. Thompson, at the Ministry today.

The meeting focused on deepening bilateral cooperation in the energy sector and reviewing the progress of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) compact.

During the meeting, both sides discussed strategies to accelerate the implementation of the MCC project, which aims to enhance Nepal’s electricity transmission infrastructure and road connectivity.

Minister Khadka and Ambassador Thompson also exchanged views on expanding U.S. investment in Nepal’s energy sector and exploring new avenues of collaboration.

“The discussions were constructive and centered on strengthening Nepal-U.S. ties, advancing energy reforms, and attracting foreign investment,” Minister Khadka shared following the meeting.

The United States, through MCC, has committed over $500 million in grant assistance to Nepal, one of the largest development partnerships between the two countries.

The energy-focused compact includes construction of a 315-km transmission line and associated substations, crucial for cross-border electricity trade.

Ambassador Thompson reiterated the U.S. government’s commitment to supporting Nepal’s economic development and energy independence, emphasizing that transparent and timely implementation of MCC projects would benefit Nepal’s long-term growth.
