KATHMANDU: Nepal’s Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba attended as an observer the Signing Ceremony of the Convention on the Establishment of the International Organization for Mediation (IOMed), held in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

The event was convened by the People’s Republic of China. According to Minister Deuba’s official statement on social media platform X, the convention was signed by 32 countries.

The newly formed IOMed aims to promote conflict resolution through mediation, aligning with the principles of the United Nations Charter.

The initiative is intended to complement existing international dispute settlement mechanisms and offer a peaceful alternative to litigation and arbitration in resolving state-to-state and other international disputes.
