KATHMANDU: Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba has returned home last night after attending the signing ceremony of the treaty establishing the International Mediation Organization, held on Jestha 16 (May 30) in Hong Kong, a Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China.

Minister Rana had departed for Hong Kong last Wednesday at the invitation of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to participate in the event.

Nepal attended the ceremony as an observer during the signing of the treaty to establish the organization.

A total of 32 countries signed the treaty, and over 50 countries and more than 20 international organizations participated in the signing ceremony.

The newly established organization aims to resolve disputes between nations, between a country and foreign companies or citizens, and between private businesses across countries through mediation.

On the sidelines of the event, Minister Rana held a bilateral meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

During the meeting, discussions focused on further strengthening the friendly relations between Nepal and China, according to Minister Rana.

She stated that the talks also included expanding economic, technical, and commercial cooperation between the two countries, as well as completing ongoing development projects in Nepal supported by China on time.

Minister Rana added, “This year, 2025, marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and China. We discussed celebrating the occasion with special programs and continuing high-level visits between the two countries.”
