KATHMANDU: The interim government led by Sushila Karki has decided to recall Nepali ambassadors from 11 countries.

Minister for Communication and Information Technology Jagdish Kharel informed on Thursday that the decision targets ambassadors appointed during the tenure of the then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

According to Kharel, the ambassadors to China, Germany, Israel, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Spain, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Japan have been asked to return.

However, Nepal’s ambassador to India, Dr. Shankar Prasad Sharma, has not been recalled.

Among those recalled, Durga Bahadur Subedi, Nepal’s ambassador to Japan, is a career foreign service officer.

He had been appointed during the Oli government by then Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba.

All other recalled ambassadors are political appointees from outside the foreign service.

The government has instructed all recalled ambassadors to return to Nepal November 6, Kharel said.
