KATHMANDU: Nepal and Qatar have held discussions on strengthening cooperation in economic development, tourism promotion, and aviation connectivity.
The talks took place during a meeting between Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Anil Kumar Sinha and Qatar’s Ambassador to Nepal, His Excellency Mishal bin Mohammed Ali Al Ansari. The meeting was also attended by Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FNCCI) President Chandra Prasad Dhakal, Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industries Board Member Mohamed Bin Ahmed Al Obaidaly, and representatives of Qatar Airways.
The discussions focused on enhancing Nepal-Qatar cooperation in economic development, tourism promotion, civil aviation, and the expansion of air services. Particular emphasis was placed on increasing direct flights between the two countries, adding new destinations, and exploring collaboration between Nepal Airlines Corporation and Qatar Airways.
Minister Sinha said the active involvement of international airlines is crucial for operating Pokhara International Airport and Gautam Buddha International Airport at full capacity, adding that Qatar Airways could play a key role. He also noted that the government is prioritizing policy reforms and facilitation to promote tourism, investment, and trade.
FNCCI President Dhakal highlighted strong potential for cooperation in tourism, aviation, hotels, infrastructure, and investment, noting opportunities for Qatari investors in Nepal’s hydropower, tourism, agriculture, and service sectors.
Qatar Chamber Board Member Obaidaly said Qatar’s private sector is interested in long-term economic cooperation with Nepal, expressing confidence that collaboration in aviation and tourism would further strengthen trade and people-to-people ties.
The meeting is expected to boost Nepal-Qatar relations and support economic growth through tourism promotion and expanded air connectivity. The Qatari delegation arrived in Nepal on Sunday at the invitation of FNCCI to attend the Nepal-Qatar Joint Business Council (JBC) meeting.
