KATHMANDU: The Nepal–United Kingdom Parliamentary Friendship Group held a meeting on Thursday to discuss policy-making experience exchange and promotion of bilateral investment.

During the meeting, the group engaged in discussions with officials from the Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD) and the Nepal–Britain Chamber of Commerce.

The participants concluded that parliamentary diplomacy could be effectively used to share legislative experiences and enhance investment in various sectors of both countries.

According to Group Coordinator Biraj Bhakta Shrestha, a mutual understanding has been reached with the Westminster Foundation to collaborate on exchanging experiences related to parliamentary practices and the policy-making process in Nepal and the UK.

Similarly, an agreement has also been reached with the Nepal–Britain Chamber of Commerce to explore potential areas for investment and to strengthen cooperation through parliamentary diplomacy, Shrestha added. He said that a framework for collaboration with both organizations will be developed and taken forward.

The group also decided to consult with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the parliamentary dimensions of Nepal–UK relations and other bilateral issues.

At the meeting, WFD Director Dinesh Wagle presented an overview of the foundation’s ongoing work in Nepal, its partnership models, and future plans.

Likewise, Rajendra Khetan, head of the Nepal–Britain Chamber of Commerce, shared insights on Nepal’s investment potential, sectors attractive to British investors, and the opportunities and challenges in strengthening economic partnerships between the two nations.

The group reaffirmed its commitment to further strengthening Nepal–UK relations through deeper parliamentary diplomacy and enhanced economic cooperation.

Nepali Congress lawmaker Bimalendra Nidhi stressed the need for coordination with other relevant institutions to improve legislative development, economic assistance, and cooperation for prosperity.
