KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has stated that the relationship between Nepal and China, founded on civilizational history and cultural closeness, has become more prosperous through mutual respect and deep people-to-people ties.

Speaking at a special event organized today to mark the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and the People’s Republic of China, PM Oli remarked that over the past decades, Nepal–China ties have grown stronger and deeper based on mutual trust.

He emphasized that the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence form the foundation of bilateral relations.

“Nepal firmly supports the One-China policy. China, in turn, has always respected Nepal’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political independence,” said Prime Minister Oli.

“China is not only our close neighbor but also a trustworthy development partner. We deeply value this long-standing, time-tested friendship. This journey has witnessed many historic milestones. The visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Nepal in 2019 was historic. It elevated our relations to a strategic partnership level, based on long-term friendship and mutual trust with a shared vision of development and prosperity,” he added.

Recalling his own official visit to China in December 2024, PM Oli said the high-level meetings held during the visit were highly fruitful.

He reaffirmed the commitment to deepen bilateral cooperation and said the signing under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) further strengthened the shared resolve of both nations.
