KATHMANDU: A delegation led by British Army Major General Gerald Mark Strickland presented the Gorkha Brigade’s annual report to President Ram Chandra Paudel.
During the meeting, President Paudel said Nepal and the United Kingdom have long cooperated on development, human welfare, and peace and share common views on promoting global peace through United Nations peacekeeping missions. He noted that Nepal–UK relations date back centuries and expressed gratitude for the United Kingdom’s continued support as an important development partner of Nepal.
The president said the contributions of the British Gorkhas have further strengthened bilateral ties between the two countries. According to the President’s Personal Secretariat, he also observed that the growing presence of Nepalis in the United Kingdom has deepened people-to-people relations.
President Paudel said diplomatic discussions are underway to address the legitimate concerns of former British Gorkhas and expressed hope that the issue would be resolved soon through bilateral mechanisms. He thanked the UK government for submitting the Gorkha Brigade’s 2025 annual report and said relevant agencies would study it.
On the occasion, Major General Strickland praised the British Gorkhas, saying they are always at the forefront of service. He said he often tells new recruits that they are “sons and daughters of Nepal,” adding that the British people hold the Gorkha community in high regard.
British Ambassador to Nepal Rob Fenn was also present at the meeting.
