KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court is hearing a writ petition today against the government’s decision to recall 11 Nepali ambassadors from various countries.

Advocates Pratibha Upreti and Sunil Bhattarai filed the petition naming the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers as the respondent.

The Cabinet meeting on October 6 had decided to recall the ambassadors. The hearing, postponed from Friday, is taking place before Justices Sharanga Subedi and Shrikanta Paudel.

The recalled ambassadors include representatives to China, Germany, Israel, Malaysia, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Spain, the UK, the US, and Japan.

The petitioners argue that the government’s move is politically motivated, violates diplomatic norms, and undermines good governance.
