KATHMANDU: The British Embassy in Kathmandu joined senior Government of Nepal officials at a roundtable on strengthening antimicrobial resistance (AMR) response, drawing on lessons from the UK’s Fleming Fund to support Nepal’s global health security efforts.
British Ambassador Rob Fenn commended Nepal for prioritizing AMR as a national health and development issue, citing progress such as the National Action Plan on AMR (2024–2028), a functional One Health governance system, and regular reporting to the WHO’s GLASS platform.
Since 2018, the UK-supported Fleming Fund has helped Nepal expand AMR and antimicrobial use surveillance across human, animal, food and environmental sectors, establish surveillance sites, train health professionals, and upgrade laboratories and digital reporting systems.
The UK reaffirmed its commitment to tackling AMR, promoting the One Health approach, and strengthening pandemic preparedness and response in Nepal.
