KATHMANDU: United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has expressed deep sorrow over the recent events in Nepal and the loss of lives and property.
He called for restraint, thorough investigation, and constructive dialogue to bring the situation under control and prevent further violence.
Guterres urged Nepali authorities to fully uphold human rights and the rule of law. He also stressed that protests must remain peaceful and that respect for life and property is essential.
“I am closely following the situation in Nepal and deeply saddened by the loss of lives and destruction,” the Secretary-General said in a statement.
“I call for restraint, investigation, and dialogue to find a constructive way forward to end the violence.” In light of the recent protests and escalating tensions in the country, he appealed to all parties to maintain peace and respect human rights.
