KATHMANDU: Pradeep Shahi, the director of the Nepali film Eklo, has been selected to participate in the Cannes Producers Network, a prestigious part of the world-famous Cannes Film Festival. This year, the festival will be held from May 13 to May 24 in Cannes, France.

Eklo is a science fiction film that presents a story based on the spiritual and mythical background of the Nepalese Himalayas. The movie stars Netflix actor Jamie Bacon, who is also a co-producer of the film.

Currently in post-production, Eklo combines Eastern philosophy with Western thriller-style filmmaking. It shows a future where human beings are on the edge of destruction.
“This is a big honor for me,” said Shahi. “It’s not just about showing one film, it’s also about presenting Nepal to the world.” He added that Eklo aims to prove that world-class cinema can be made in Nepal. Shahi has previously directed 1915: Legend of the Gurkha and Antim Sanskar. The release date for Eklo in Nepal has not been announced yet.

As per the official Cannes website, the Cannes Market will held from May 13 to May 21, will feature 15,000 film professionals, 4,000 films and projects, over 250 events, and participation from 140 countries.
