KATHMANDU: It is not surprising to discover a minor difference between box office reports announced by the Film Development Board and those announced by producers. For, the Board is yet to connect all the cinemas of the nation, and therefore a few lakh difference is to be expected.
But when it comes to Hrashwo Deergha, a huge 6-crore gap has raised eyebrows! The production team claimed that by the third week of release, the film had grossed a whopping 10.6 crores at the box office. This figure was widely shared and publicized by them. But the Film Development Board figures tell a totally different tale. Going by their box office report, the overall gross collection of the film stands at just above 4 crores—i.e., 4.33 crores. Then how did the producers and the Board manage to have a difference of 6 crores in their reports?
This massive disparity would have been explained by the usual pattern of producers exaggerating box office earnings wildly in an attempt to generate interest and stimulate viewing. By generating publicity over how well their film did, they are able to get more people into the theaters and even gain overseas sales. The movie is directed by Chandra Pant, Hrashwo Deergha stars Hariraj Adhikari, Nita Dhungana, Pradeep Raut, Brahmanandam, Ali, Bipana Thapa, Garima Sharma, and many other talented actors. It’s no surprise that such a notable film has sparked such fascination in the numbers game!
