KATHMANDU: Khem Century’s past two months have been full of ups and downs as he took on the responsibility of being a coach for the first time on The Voice of Nepal. From the controversy over him pressing the buzzer with his foot to the moment his team member Proshesh Pandey was crowned the winner, his journey has resembled the script of a dramatic film.

There was much gossip surrounding the reportedly strained relationship between Khem and fellow coach Shanti Shree Pariyar offstage. Despite this, his debut as a coach ended on a positive note, with his team member Pandey winning the title of Season 6 on Friday, earning Khem praise for his coaching.

Reacting on social media Saturday, Khem described Pandey’s win as a “victory of determination,” stating that Process’s win proves individuals with different abilities can also climb the Everest of music.
He wrote, “When I signed the contract for The Voice, I believed in the power of these fingers to lead someone who trusts them to their destination. They won’t have to fall repeatedly like me, to rise again through wounds and struggles. Today, that determination has won.”

He continued, “Our very own Proshesh Pandey from Team Khem has lifted the title of The Voice of Nepal – Season 6. This is not just a title, it is a victory of trust. A historic achievement. It proves once again that those with different abilities can also reach the pinnacle of music. It reaffirms that folk music, rich with the fragrance of Nepali soil, is the mother of all Nepali music.”

“With pride in my heart, I want to say whose victory is this? It’s folk music,” he wrote. Khem also mentioned that he learned a lot from fellow coaches Raju Lama, Melina Rai, and Uday Sotang during the season.

By including Khem Century—a representative of the folk genre—as a coach, The Voice of Nepal made this season more inclusive, a move that received widespread praise from both fans and critics.
