KATHMANDU: The fifth edition of the Lalabala Kathmandu International Children’s Theatre Festival began on Monday at the Imperial World School auditorium, featuring artists from 12 countries including Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Iran, Thailand, the United Kingdom, Japan, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Latvia, and Brazil.

Performers will present plays in their native languages and cultural styles, alongside theatre workshops for children.

All international artists arrived in Nepal by Sunday evening.

Organized under the concept and active guidance of Lalabala, a leading children’s theatre organization, the festival has been held annually.

“This year is a challenging time. Yet, in this difficulty, we want artists from various countries to stand on one stage, raise a united voice, and share a positive message. Each year, we receive support from Nepali theatre institutions and artists,” said festival director Tanka Chaulagain.

Following Monday’s inauguration, performances included the host school, Brazil, and Bangladesh.

Tuesday features Japan, the UK/Thailand, Latvia, and Iran, while Wednesday will showcase Joy House Collective Nepal and Sri Lanka.

Thursday brings Valley View School and the Czech Republic, and Friday concludes with Shriyatra Education Foundation, India, and Slovakia.

Shows are scheduled daily at 10:30 AM, 1:00 PM, and 5:00 PM.
