KATHMANDU: The Central Film Censor Board has refused to grant screening permission for the film ‘Tandavam’, citing objections to its violent scenes. The film was censored on Tuesday evening.

Director Junim Gahatraj explained that the film was halted due to the inclusion of what the Censor Board deemed ‘brutal’ scenes. “They have asked us to cut these scenes, but doing so would disrupt the essence and flow of the film’s story,” Gahatraj stated.

He also noted that despite requesting an adult certificate without altering the scenes, the Censor Board denied the request. “Foreign films with similar brutal scenes are often given adult certificates without requiring cuts,” he added.

With a runtime of 2 hours and 1 minute, Gahatraj mentioned that he would revise the film by removing the violent scenes that the board finds objectionable and reapply for censorship. “The brutal scenes are not isolated; they are interwoven throughout the film. If we cut them, it would require substantial edits and undermine the film’s core,” the director said.

As a result of the Censor Board’s decision, the film’s premiere, scheduled for Wednesday, has been postponed. Tandavam is now set to be released on Falgun 9, the day before Mahashivratri.
