KATHMANDU: Nepal witnessed a nationwide Gen Z movement on September 8 and 9, which led to the collapse of the KP Sharma Oli-led government in just two days.
During the protests, more than 76 people lost their lives. The movement caused extensive damage to the country’s infrastructure, with arson and destruction creating a near stateless situation.
Many areas of Kathmandu were significantly transformed as a result. The impact was visible not only on roads, buildings, and public spaces, but also on walls and fences, which displayed messages expressing anger toward political leaders.
After the protests, slogans, murals, and messages filled main streets, government building walls, and various public spaces across Kathmandu.
Some inscriptions conveyed anger against political leaders, while others honored the martyrs and called for the building of a new Nepal.
Although a few obscene slogans from those days remain, areas around the Department of Roads and Ratna Park now feature murals and messages that pay tribute to the martyrs and reflect hopes for change and transformation.
