KATHMANDU: The Gurung community is celebrating Tamu Lhosar today by bidding farewell to the old year and welcoming the new one.
The term “Lho” means “year,” and “Sar” means “change,” making Tamu Lhosar the festival that marks the change of the year.
Tamu Lhosar is linked to the movement of the sun’s rays and holds special significance in Gurung-majority districts such as Lamjung, Gorkha, Tanahun, Syangja, Manang, Kaski, and Parbat.
Marking the occasion, the government has declared a public holiday.
In Kathmandu, members of the Gurung community have gathered at Tundikhel, dressed in traditional and cultural attire, to celebrate the festival.
