BIRGUNJ: Following the confirmation of cholera cases in Birgunj Metropolitan City last Friday, authorities have stepped up emergency response measures along with water testing and purification in affected areas.

A mobile team from the Department of Water Supply and Sewerage Management has been deployed to test water in different wards.

Minister for Water Supply Pradeep Yadav said, “Since this morning, our technical team and I have begun water testing in various wards. The team is working rapidly to test and purify water while supporting affected residents.”

Several wards and neighborhoods in Birgunj have reported cholera infections, with some fatalities.  Minister Yadav, alongside technical staff from the ministry and department, is actively overseeing the response and relief operations.

Department Director General Ramkumar Shrestha stated that the mobile van team has been dispatched with necessary equipment, and additional materials will be sent today to support water testing, purification, and emergency response efforts.

As of Friday, three people in Birgunj had tested positive for cholera. Two others, showing cholera-like symptoms but not yet confirmed, died on Saturday.
