KATHMANDU: Kathmandu is facing an increased risk of dengue outbreaks due to continuous monsoon rainfall, prompting health authorities to issue public alerts and step up preventive efforts citywide.

The ongoing rains have created favorable breeding conditions for Aedes mosquitoes, which transmit dengue.

In response, the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has deployed health workers, volunteers, and sanitation staff across all 32 wards to eliminate stagnant water and conduct awareness programs, including in schools.

Authorities are urging residents to be especially cautious during mornings and evenings, when mosquito activity is highest.

Common symptoms of dengue include high fever, joint and muscle pain, nausea, and bleeding. Local health centers have stocked basic medications such as Cetamol and oral rehydration salts.

Officials emphasize that prevention—through avoiding water accumulation and maintaining household cleanliness—remains the most effective measure, particularly with forecasts indicating heavier rainfall ahead.
