Girl students to be vaccinated against cervical cancer from Sunday

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Health and Population is conducting a nationwide vaccination program for the school girls (Grade 6) against cervical cancer from coming Sunday. The vaccination is against the human papillomavirus (HPV).

Chief of Child Health and Immunization Section in the Ministry, Dr Abhiyan Gautam, informed that Grade 6 girl students and those of 10-year age group remained out of the school would be jabbed against HPV. The campaign would continue till February 27.

Even those who had missed the vaccination during the last year campaign would be incorporated this time. They would be the girls from Grade 7 to 10, and the adolescent girls of 11-14 year age group left out of the schools.

Dr Gautam further informed that the vaccination would be conducted at the respective schools and health institutions. The health workers were also given training for the immunization drive.

The jabs have reached the concerned district offices from the province offices. Nearly 350 thousand girls would be vaccinated against HPV this time. Medicinal assistance is received from the Global Alliance for Vaccine and Immunization.
