KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has officially begun providing basic health care services and regular medical check-ups at the homes of senior citizens aged 70 and above, effective from today.

Acting Mayor Sunita Dangol said health care for the elderly will no longer be limited to hospitals. She added that the metropolis will also arrange transportation for critically ill senior citizens to hospitals when necessary.

In a statement, Dangol said the new initiative includes health assessments, health promotion support, routine check-ups, essential medicines, medical consultations, and assistance with hospital referrals in serious cases, ensuring that vital health services are delivered directly to the doorsteps of elderly residents.
