KATHMANDU: Menstrual Hygiene Day, celebrated globally under the slogan “Collaboration for a Period-Friendly Society,” was observed in Nepal today with various awareness programs.

During an event organized in Kathmandu, speakers emphasized increasing awareness surrounding menstruation, promoting inclusivity and equality, empowering women and adolescent girls, and driving policy advocacy. Participants expressed that collaboration among stakeholders is crucial to ending the trend of viewing menstruation as a tool for social discrimination.

Celebrated every year on May 28, this day was initiated globally in 2014, and Nepal began formally observing it in the same year. On the occasion of the day, various organizations conducted awareness programs, interactions, and campaigns.

Menstrual Hygiene Day is expected to generate widespread discourse on the necessary policies, infrastructure, and behavioral changes required to ensure safe, dignified, and accessible menstruation management.
