KATHMANDU: The tradition of receiving Tika continued actively on Friday, the second day of the Dashain Tika festival.

After applying the auspicious red Tika symbolizing good fortune and prosperity, along with Jamara on Bijaya Dashami, many people were seen visiting relatives’ homes today as well to receive blessings.

Following the offering of sacred items from Dashain homes or prayer rooms where rituals were conducted for nine days, people who went to relatives’ houses today added to the hustle and bustle in the markets.

The Tika is applied by performing a Vedic ritual with water from the sacred vessel (ghada) installed on Ghatasthapana day.

Bijaya Dashami, observed on the tenth day of the bright lunar fortnight of Ashwin, was celebrated with joy on Thursday by receiving Tika and Jamara from elders as blessings of Goddess Durga.

Those who could not receive Tika on Thursday will still have the opportunity to do so until Kojagrat Purnima ( full moon day), as long as the ceremonial offerings remain.
