KATHMANDU: The Nepali community in Canada observed the Bala Chaturdashi festival today by sowing Satbeej, a mixture of seven types of grains including sesame, barley, and maize and so on in memory of their departed ancestors.

The festival was held at East Garafraxa in Ontario and was organized by the Nepalese Canadian Heritage Centre. According to Centre Chair Leela Bhandari, the event aims to preserve Nepali culture while honoring those who have passed away.

With the Centre’s initiative, a Pashupati Temple has also been operating in Brampton since 2016.

Speaking at the event, NRNA Canada President Jagan Sapkota said that festivals and cultural activities held in Canada help Nepalis maintain their identity while living abroad.

He emphasized that everyone should contribute in whatever way they can whether through small or large community events and encouraged Nepalis to strengthen unity and work together to preserve their cultural heritage.
