KENTUCKY: Two women were killed and two men were injured in a shooting at a church in Lexington, Kentucky, on Sunday. Police said the suspected attacker was also shot and died at the scene.
A gunman shot and killed a police officer at Lexington’s Blue Grass Airport before fleeing. The officer was seriously injured. However, he is said to be in stable condition. The shooting at the airport also caused panic among passengers.
The suspect opened fire on the police during the check.
Authorities said the injured police officer stopped a car near Blue Grass Airport at 11:30 a.m. for a check. The suspect in the car then shot him. The suspect then fled the scene. He robbed the car about 10 miles (16 kilometers) from the airport.
From there, he ran to the Richmond Road Baptist Church in Lexington and began shooting at people. Police tracked the location of the stolen car and arrived at the church and killed the attacker. The suspect’s name and age are not yet known.
Police said it is not yet known why the suspect opened fire. But it is suspected he knew some of the people at the church. The shooting will be investigated internally, per Lexington Police Department policy.
