TEL AVIV: Israeli airstrikes on Tuesday killed at least 33 Palestinians in Gaza, targeting homes, schools, and residential buildings in Gaza City, Beit Lahia, al-Bureij, Nuseirat, and Khan Younis, according to Gaza’s Hamas-run Civil Defence agency and hospital officials.
Israel described the attacks as retaliation for what it said were violations of the U.S.-brokered ceasefire agreement.
Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz accused Hamas of attacking Israeli soldiers and breaching commitments related to the return of bodies of deceased hostages.
Hamas denied involvement in the alleged attack, insisting it remained committed to the ceasefire and had “no connection” to the incident.
